In ziegelhutten the supply and the disposal run perfectly again

The extensive tree removal work in the lorenz-sandler-/ferdinand-brandt-strabe area in ziegelhutten has been completed, according to the city of kulmbach’s utility company. In 2018 and 2019, several tree removals have been carried out there to maintain supply and disposal safety.

During the renewal of the gas and water supply lines in ferdinand-brandt-strabe towards the intersection of metzdorfer strabe, the gas and water lines in ferdinand-brandt-strabe were renewed for about 270 meters. The tree removal cost about 300000 euros. It was carried out in 2018.

Finally, the asphalt surface was restored over the entire length of the trench in collaboration with the civil engineering department.

Already in operation for almost 70 years

The combined sewer in lorenz sandlerstrabe, which dates back to the 1950s, was largely worn out and in need of repair. Around the turn of the year 2017/2018 there had been two trench collapses due to uncoils. In addition, the canal in lorenz-sandler-strabe between rosenkrantzstrabe and ziegelhuttener strabe was no longer hydraulically efficient enough.

Exchange makes sense

That’s why it was decided to replace the sewers in this section. A new channel with a diameter of 60 to 100 centimeters was laid from the junction of ziegelhuttener strabe and saalfelder strabe to rosenkrantzstrabe. A special event was the lifting of the shaft structure weighing 8.9 tons with a truck-mounted crane. The costs for this mabnahme amount to around 550000 euros.

Since damage was found that could affect the load-bearing capacity of the trench surface and the risk of trench subsidence and collapse could not be ruled out, a speed limit was imposed in coordination with the public order department, the municipal utility company further announced.

In order to avoid double excavations, the municipal utility also replaced the water supply line in the area of the sewer tree inspection and invested around 250,000 euros in this. Also with this mabnahme, the city has "created a completely renewed strabe". The asphalt surface to be restored totaled 3800 square meters. The cost of the tramway construction amounts to around 400,000 euros.

Up to 15 million euros a year

Mayor henry schramm is pleased that the mabnahme has been completed: "in order to avoid investment backlogs, the municipal utilities invest continuously. Every year, around ten to 15 million euros are invested in these important public utility facilities", stressed the oberburgermeister in this context.
